Key Largo's Prime Offshore Fishing Adventure

Ready to get your lines wet in some of the best fishing waters Florida has to offer? Captain Justin Hann's got you covered with this killer 3/4 day trip out of Key Largo. Whether you're itching to drop bait on the reefs or chase down some big pelagics offshore, this six-hour charter delivers the goods. With room for up to four anglers, you'll have plenty of elbow room to work those rods and soak in the stunning views. Best part? Everything you need is included - from top-notch gear to your fishing license. And if you're feeling adventurous, there's even an option to strap on a mask and fins for some underwater action.

What to Expect on the Water

When you step aboard Captain Justin's boat, you're in for a real treat. This isn't your average day on the water - it's a tailor-made fishing experience. Depending on what's biting and what you're after, you might find yourself bottom fishing over coral-rich reefs or trolling the deep blue for hard-fighting pelagics. The beauty of Key Largo fishing is its variety. One minute you could be battling a hefty Amberjack, the next you're on the chase for a lightning-fast Wahoo. And let's not forget the possibility of hooking into a acrobatic Mahi Mahi - talk about a fish that'll make your reel sing! With six solid hours on the water, you've got time to try different techniques and really dial in on what's working.

Fishing Tactics & Gear Rundown

On this trip, you'll get to try your hand at a mix of fishing methods. When we're working the reefs, it's all about precision bottom fishing. You'll learn to feel for that telltale tap-tap of a fish taking the bait, then it's game on! If we're heading offshore, get ready for some trolling action. We'll set out a spread of lines and cruise the blue water, keeping our eyes peeled for bird activity or floating debris that often holds fish. Captain Justin's got all the gear you need - quality rods and reels suited for the species we're after, and a variety of bait and lures to entice even the pickiest eaters. And hey, if you've always wanted to try spearfishing, this is your chance. Just let the captain know, and he'll set you up with the gear to go below and hunt your dinner face-to-face.

Species You'll Want to Hook

Atlantic Sailfish: These acrobatic beauties are the pride of Key Largo's offshore waters. Known for their incredible speed (they can hit 68 mph!) and those spectacular leaps, hooking a sailfish is an angler's dream. They're most abundant from November through May, with peak season typically in the winter months. When a sail takes your bait, be ready for an epic battle - these fish can grow over 7 feet long and put up a fight that'll leave your arms burning and your heart racing.

King Mackerel: Also known as Kingfish, these speedsters are a blast to catch. They're around most of the year but really show up in numbers during their spring and fall migrations. Kings are known for their blistering runs and sharp teeth, so we use wire leaders to prevent bite-offs. They typically range from 10 to 30 pounds, but trophy-sized 'smoker kings' over 50 pounds aren't unheard of. Their oily, rich meat makes for some fantastic smoked fish dip - a Keys specialty!

Mahi Mahi: Also called Dorado or Dolphinfish (no relation to Flipper), these fish are the whole package. They're beautiful, with electric blue and gold colors that seem to glow in the water. They're incredible fighters, known for aerial displays and long runs. And to top it off, they're absolutely delicious. We typically find Mahi near floating debris or weed lines, and they often travel in schools. Peak season is late spring through summer, but you can catch them year-round in the Keys.

Greater Amberjack: If you're looking for a true test of strength, look no further than the Amberjack. These bruisers hang around wrecks and deep reefs, and they pull like a freight train. We typically target them with live bait or heavy jigs, and when one takes the bait, you better hold on tight! They average 20 to 50 pounds but can grow much larger. The fight usually starts with a powerful run towards the bottom, and it's your job to turn that fish before it reaches its rocky home.

Great Barracuda: With their menacing teeth and lightning-fast strikes, Barracuda are one of the most exciting fish to catch in the Keys. They're abundant year-round and can be found from the shallows all the way out to the deep. We often catch them while trolling or casting lures near the surface. When a 'cuda hits, it's usually a spectacular strike followed by several jumps. They might not be the best eating, but for pure excitement, it's hard to beat a big barracuda on light tackle.

Time to Book Your Spot

Listen, if you're looking for a fishing trip that's got it all - variety, action, and the beauty of the Florida Keys - this is it. Captain Justin knows these waters like the back of his hand and he's committed to putting you on the fish. Whether you're a seasoned angler or it's your first time wetting a line, this trip's got something for everyone. With all gear provided and the flexibility to fish how you want, it's the perfect way to experience the legendary fishing of Key Largo. Just remember, spots fill up fast, especially during peak seasons. So if you're ready to make some fishing memories that'll last a lifetime, don't wait. Get in touch with All Hanns on Deck and lock in your date. The fish are waiting - are you ready to catch 'em?

Atlantic Sailfish

Atlantic Sailfish are some of the fastest fish in the ocean, hitting speeds up to 68 mph. These beauties average 6-8 feet long and put on quite a show, leaping and thrashing when hooked. We usually find them in the deeper waters off Key Largo, 100-200 feet down. Spring and fall are prime seasons, but you can catch them year-round. Sailfish are a bucket list species for many anglers because of their acrobatic fights and striking appearance. That giant sail-like dorsal fin is something to see. When targeting sailfish, we'll often slow troll with live bait like ballyhoo or blue runners. A local trick is to use circle hooks - they're easier on the fish for catch and release, and actually improve your hookup ratio. Just remember, these guys can really run, so be ready for some screaming drags!

Atlantic Sailfish

Great Barracuda

Great Barracuda are the toothy terrors of the flats and reefs. These sleek predators can reach 5-6 feet long and pack a mean set of choppers. We find them from shallow flats to offshore reefs, often hanging around structure. They're here year-round, but summer sees more big ones. Anglers love 'cuda for their explosive strikes and aerial acrobatics. When they hit, it's like a torpedo launched from the depths. We often target them with tube lures or live bait on wire leaders. A local trick: use shiny lures to mimic flashing baitfish, but be ready for a instant strike. Barracuda will often follow a lure, then suddenly attack boat-side. Keep your fingers clear when unhooking these guys - those teeth are no joke!

Great Barracuda

Greater Amberjack

Greater Amberjack, or AJs, are the bruisers of the reef. These powerful fish average 20-50 pounds but can top 100. We find them around deep wrecks and reefs, usually in 100-300 feet of water. Spring and fall are peak seasons, but they're around year-round. Anglers target AJs for their legendary strength - they're like hooking a freight train. When you hook one, be ready for a battle. They'll try to break you off in the structure, so you need heavy tackle and quick reflexes. Live bait like blue runners or speedos works well, but big jigs can also trigger strikes. A local tip: when jigging for AJs, use a fast retrieve with sharp jerks. These fish often hit on the drop, so stay alert. And trust me, you'll want to stretch before tangling with these reef donkeys!

Greater Amberjack

King Mackerel

King Mackerel, or Kingfish, are hard-fighting speedsters that'll test your gear and skills. These sleek predators average 20-40 pounds but can top 100. We find them anywhere from just offshore to several miles out, often around structure or bait schools. Kings are here year-round, but fall and winter are prime. Anglers love 'em for their blistering runs and aerial acrobatics when hooked. They're also great eating, with firm, white meat perfect for grilling. When targeting kings, we'll often slow troll with live bait like blue runners or mullet. A local tip: use wire leaders to prevent bite-offs from those razor-sharp teeth. Kings will make screaming runs, so make sure your drag is set right. Once you hook one, hang on tight and enjoy the ride - it's why they call 'em "smokers"!

King Mackerel

Mahi Mahi or Common Dolphinfish

Mahi Mahi are the acrobats of the ocean, known for their stunning colors and high-flying fights. These fish average 15-30 pounds but can reach over 70. We find them offshore, often around floating debris or weedlines. Summer and early fall are prime Mahi seasons here. Anglers love Mahi for their beautiful appearance, hard fights, and excellent table fare. When we spot a school, it's non-stop action - they're aggressive feeders and will hit just about anything. Trolling with ballyhoo or small lures works well, but my favorite is sight casting when we find them under floating debris. A local trick: when you hook one, keep it in the water to keep the school around. Mahi are curious and will often stay with their hooked buddy, giving you shots at multiple fish.
